As the chasm between haves and have nots grows, our democracy stands on more tenuous grounds. Our destinies are linked. This is, and always has been, a nation built on the backs of ordinary, working class folks. We are not naturally more benevolent or virtuous than the people of any other portion of the planet. More than anything, we are clay in the hands of circumstance, of the reality in which our amorphous existence is couched. What keeps Americans from killing for food is our ability to acquire it through more efficient means. When those means are jeopardized, as they were in the early 1930s, the foundations of our civilization shake, just as Landon understood.
The best villains are the ones who don't think they're villains. They feel utterly justified in the actions they're taking, however misguided or delusional they may be. In Landon Kennedy's mind, he's the most honorable man in the world. But he didn't just change overnight. It took over twenty years to build him up to what he is today. The untimely death of his parents by way of alien intervention had spurned his hatred towards everything that happened to pass through Earth's atmosphere, whether it be malevolent or even benevolent forces. The scarring on 75% of his body ignited his hatred for everything else. Some say it made him go crazy, but .. if your body was burnt up, wouldn't you be a little angry too?
His drug dependency began with painkiller after painkiller, but eventually it wasn't able to do the job. So he moved onto the harder stuff -- cocaine, heroine, whatever was necessary to quell his pain. This interfered with his meta human abilities, but he found himself having no need for them. His arsenal was now comprised of hardcore militant arms never before seen on Earth. Siphoning funds from KnightCorp, Landon created his own company, a weapons manufacturing firm intent on combating the alien threat. But as always, Landon's thirst for power doesn't end there. A cohort of A.J Marzetti's, the Manhattan family's Don, Landon believes his power is displayed vicariously through his peer, but wouldn't rest until his rise to absolution is complete.
